Alia Bastamam Bridal 2013

Here I thought that it was going to be another fashion showcase where there would only be models parading down the runway but I was in for a complete surprise. I walked into Frangipani Changkat and was warmly greeted by Alia's wonderful team and an all-white decor by Reka Teemor which left a huge impression that this show was going to blow everyone's stilettos off. There was a string quartet to entertain us with classical music, and hors d'oeuvres to tantalize our tastebuds but best of all were the invited guests that were dressed to the nines. Don't mind me, I love people watching especially when there's the right crowd in the same room.

When the first model walked out, the crowd went silent and all I could hear was the complementing music and some gasps. Each dress wow-ed the crowd to the very last hem. Phones and cameras were clicking every time the models passed by, especially when Alia's signature details - the racerback, the wrap, toga kaftan and high slit made an appearance. Alia believes that the bride has to feel comfortable in the dresses and I personally completely agree to that. She drew her inspiration from flipping through Liz Taylor's many wedding dresses - which explains the classic cuts and flow yet with a modern elegant touch from Alia herself.

This collection showcased a variety of style, from modest kurungs and veils for akad nikah (solemnization), kaftan and wrap skirts for the beach and garden wedding, to the conservative receptions with flowy gowns and also after-party dresses with seductive cuts that shows a little bit more skin.

If I could summarize Alia's first bridal collection it would be modern elegance with fine and very detailed finishing that accentuates a woman's figure.
