It was love at first sight when I tried the all-new Urban Decay Naked Heat palette. Out of all Naked palettes, this is the one that I've been using the most on a weekly basis. Not only that the shades are flattering for my Asian skin tone, it also gives me the freedom to create day-to-night looks all within one palette. I actually liked the fact that there are good matte and shimmer tones within this palette and the red-based hues are flattering - no, I did not look like I had a pink-eye. It's fun, flirty and definitely edgy paired with your favorite nude lipstick or tints for a fun summer look.
Well, it's not really a new hack per day but I realised that I am totally missing out when it comes to matte liquid lipsticks (which is the current craze in the beauty world globally). It is kind of difficult to get my hands on brands such as Lime Crime, La Splash, Jefree Star and so on while living in Malaysia and we're down to either instagram sellers or whatever that is available in Sephora (which is still not as extensive in selection as in America). I needed to try out an earthy, nude look after seeing a tutorial on instagram and I definitely have about a gajillion eyeshadows in earthy shades. My immediate thought was
"Why not try eyeshadow as a lip color?"
I tried twice, using a pink lipgloss and then clear lip balm as my base. Clearly my favorite would be the balm as it catches on the pigments better and my lips weren't as dry. If you have access to liquid lipsticks, they are definitely better in terms of coverage but I can't hate this hack cause I love how the color is more subtle yet highlights your natural lip shape, and you get access to almost every eyeshadow color you currently own. The downside? Having to reapply balm every time.

I recently bought the Urban Decay's Urban Spectrum Eyeshadow Palette from the newly launched Urban Decay store in Suria KLCC and did my first eyeshadow swatch photo. I usually don't do swatches and I love applying it directly as a look but I think this palette deserves a swatch post on its own. As a limited edition palette, it has all the colors I would need to create different looks for different occasions and they're mostly in my favorite shades of blue, green and neutrals too.
Which colors are your favorite? Mine would be Junkie, Madness, Flashback, Backlash and Bordello.
About twenty years ago, Urban Decay was born out of the frustration of the 'pretty' beauty market - pinks and beige dominated the beauty market and other colors such as green and purple never made it on the shelves. Sandy Lerner then decided to make her own cosmetics that she likes instead of adhering to the generic market and catering to the 90's grunge market by releasing 10 lipsticks and 12 nail enamels with names such as Roach, Smog, Rust, Oil Slick and Acid Rain. Fast forward to today, there's not a beauty brand that does not carry purple nail polish and Urban Decay has moved on from the teen angst era and became a cult among beauty lovers worldwide.
I mean, have you not heard of the Naked Palette? It is still one of the most coveted palettes around with shades of neutrals beiges to shimmery blacks, the palette has become somewhat essential in a girl's beauty product collection at least once in her life. It doesn't just stop there - the moment I had my first palette, I bought my mum one and it keeps going on and on to their primers, eyeliners, lipliners and so on. Now that Urban Decay has finally opened its first Malaysian flagship store in KLCC shopping mall, Kuala Lumpur and I went for a quick visit to see what the hype was about.
The store is sleek, easy to navigate (most counters are similar, it's just duplicated to serve multitude of customers at one go) and it is decked in Urban Decay's official violet and black theme. But what's so different in this Urban Decay store compared to the array of products they have in Sephora, which is just less then 400 meters away?
For starters, they have the UD Spectrum palette (only about 100 I was told) being sold in the stores. There are also classic items like the eyeshadow but in different metallic colors which are not available in Sephora. They currently do not do make-up services like other cosmetic stores but they have staff to help you figure out your best shade, and to teach you their trade secrets with the Urban Decay range. I am horrible when it comes to concealers so knowing that I could wear cream concealers and how to set it, thanks to the UD makeup staff I'm now no longer afraid to try on different types of concealers. Basically, there are more colorways and items that Sephora does not carry, so it is still recommended that you check out the store when you are in KLCC.

I'm constantly on the lookout for makeup that would make my daily routine so much better, faster and fuss-free. However, the more makeup I have, the more time I spend on it, not to mention the space it acquires inside my handbag. As much as I try to bring the basics, I always end up bringing my whole bag with the excuse "just in case".
What if I need more items to complete my 'look'? In these cases, it's true that sometimes, we all need to go back to basics. I've always been a fan of Sephora. I've always been a bigger fan of Urban Decay makeup but I never had any solid reason to buy it but for vanity's sake. However, when the Naked Basics was introduced, I had a reason to try it and that, ladies and gentlemen, was pure poison. Once you go Naked, you'll never put anything else on.
Sephora's makeup artist created an entire eye look for me using just the Basic palette that it was pretty impressive, considering that I have separate makeup for the eyes - eyeshadow, eyebrow fillers and eyeliner. Who knew that I could use any of these six basic shades to create a complete look and just top it off with mascara, powder and lip balm. If you're looking for fuss-free makeup for daily usage, I would definitely tell you that this is THE ONE.
In fact, I was so hooked that point8cam even bought me a complete set of the Naked Palette recently. The Naked Palette is RM179 and the Naked Basics are on the shelves for RM99. They're available at Sephora stores nationwide.
Went Naked, and have not been putting anything else on so far.
